38 CFR Part 4 — 38 CFR § 4.117
Solitary plasmacytoma — VA Diagnostic Code 7724
Hematologic / lymphatic
Diagnostic code
7724
38 CFR § 4.117 lists Diagnostic Code 7724 as “Solitary plasmacytoma:”. The one percentage on the code is 100, “when there is active disease or during a treatment phase.” Note (1) continues that 100 beyond the named treatment, including autologous stem cell transplantation, and then requires a mandatory examination six months after discontinuance. Appendix B to Part 4 indexes the code as “Solitary plasmacytoma.” with a period. The rating-table title uses a colon.
Reviewed 2026-10-05. Text checked against the eCFR versioner full-text XML for 2026-10-01 on 2026-10-05. Title 38 was up to date as of 2026-10-01 and last amended on 2026-08-27. The § 4.117 source note prints 60 FR 49227, Sept. 22, 1995, as amended at 77 FR 6467, Feb. 8, 2012; 79 FR 2100, Jan. 13, 2014; 83 FR 54254, Oct. 29, 2018; 83 FR 54881, Nov. 1, 2018; 87 FR 61248, Oct. 11, 2022.
The rating criteria at each level
7724 Solitary plasmacytoma
Rating %: 100
Criteria (verbatim). Solitary plasmacytoma, when there is active disease or during a treatment phase
| Rating % | Criteria (verbatim) |
|---|---|
| 100 | Solitary plasmacytoma, when there is active disease or during a treatment phase |
Note (1) does not end with a period. It reads: A 100 percent evaluation shall continue beyond the cessation of any surgical therapy, radiation therapy, antineoplastic chemotherapy, or other therapeutic procedures (including autologous stem cell transplantation). Six months after discontinuance of such treatment, the appropriate disability rating shall be determined by mandatory VA examination. Any change in evaluation based upon that or any subsequent examination shall be subject to the provisions of § 3.105(e) of this chapter. If there has been no recurrence, rate residuals under the appropriate diagnostic codes
Note (2) does not end with a period. It reads: Rate a solitary plasmacytoma that has developed into multiple myeloma as symptomatic multiple myeloma
Note (3) does not end with a period. It reads: Rate residuals of plasma cell dysplasia (e.g., thrombosis) and adverse effects of medical treatment (e.g., neuropathy) under the appropriate diagnostic codes
The 100 percent line under DC 7712 is “Symptomatic multiple myeloma.” Note (2) uses those words and does not print the DC 7712 percentage or the DC 7712 five-year sentence. DC 7724’s own continuation is the six-month sentence in Note (1).
38 CFR § 4.7 assigns the higher rating when the disability picture more nearly approximates the criteria required for that rating. Otherwise, the lower rating will be assigned. 38 CFR § 4.6 requires each element affecting the evidence to be studied so that decisions will be equitable and just. 38 CFR § 4.31 says that in every instance where the schedule does not provide a zero percent evaluation for a diagnostic code, a zero percent evaluation shall be assigned when the requirements for a compensable evaluation are not met. DC 7724 prints one percentage, 100, and only for active disease or a treatment phase. It does not print a 0 line. Note (1) sends a case with no recurrence to residuals under the appropriate diagnostic codes.
DC 7712 is “Multiple myeloma:”. “Symptomatic multiple myeloma” is 100. Note (2) under DC 7712 says the 100 percent evaluation shall continue for five years after the diagnosis of symptomatic multiple myeloma. That five-year sentence is not printed under DC 7724. DC 7725, the next code, is myelodysplastic syndromes. Its lines are not DC 7724 lines.

What the words mean in your records
Active disease or a treatment phase
Those are the words on the only percentage line. The line is 100. Note (1) is what happens beyond cessation of the treatment it names.
Six months here, five years on DC 7712
DC 7724 Note (1) uses six months after discontinuance of the named treatment. DC 7712 Note (2) uses five years after the diagnosis of symptomatic multiple myeloma. Note (2) under DC 7724 points to “symptomatic multiple myeloma” and does not copy the five-year sentence.
The examples in Note (3)
Note (3) says “e.g., thrombosis” for residuals of plasma cell dysplasia and “e.g., neuropathy” for adverse effects of medical treatment. It says to rate them under the appropriate diagnostic codes. It does not name those codes.
Evidence that speaks to each level
100
What the rater needs to see. Solitary plasmacytoma when there is active disease or during a treatment phase.
Where that usually lives. The hematology or oncology record that states active disease or the treatment phase.
After the named treatment stops
What the rater needs to see. The Note (1) examination six months after discontinuance, and whether there has been a recurrence. If there has been no recurrence, the note says to rate residuals under the appropriate diagnostic codes.
Where that usually lives. The same record, including the date treatment stopped.
VA’s public DBQ list, checked October 5, 2026, names “Hematologic and Lymphatic Conditions, Including Leukemia” under Hematologic & Lymphatic. The file is Hematologic and Lymphatic Conditions, Including Leukemia.
The exam form
DC 7724 prints 100 for active disease or a treatment phase. This page does not say the form replaces that line or the three notes.
Related codes and how they interact
Multiple myeloma has its own five-year sentence.
DC 7712 rates symptomatic multiple myeloma at 100 and continues that evaluation for five years after diagnosis. DC 7724 Note (2) says to rate a solitary plasmacytoma that has developed into multiple myeloma as symptomatic multiple myeloma. The five-year sentence stays on DC 7712.
Secondary conditions and presumptions
The 2026-10-01 text of 38 CFR § 3.309 contains “Multiple myeloma.” It does not contain “plasmacytoma.” Paragraph (d)(2)(ix) is one of the sentences that says “Multiple myeloma.” The schedule code for that name in this chapter’s rating table is DC 7712. This page does not assign DC 7724 to “Multiple myeloma.”
Short answers
What is the VA rating for solitary plasmacytoma?
Under 38 CFR § 4.117, Diagnostic Code 7724 is 100 percent when there is active disease or during a treatment phase. Note (1) is the six-month continuation and examination rule. Education only. VA decides on the evidence.
Where is the five-year multiple-myeloma sentence?
It is Note (2) under DC 7712. DC 7724 Note (1) says six months after discontinuance of the treatment that note names.
FAQ
What percentage does DC 7724 print?
100, for solitary plasmacytoma when there is active disease or during a treatment phase. Note (1) continues that 100 beyond the cessation of the treatment it names, including autologous stem cell transplantation, with a mandatory examination six months after discontinuance. Education only.
What if it has developed into multiple myeloma?
Note (2) says to rate a solitary plasmacytoma that has developed into multiple myeloma as symptomatic multiple myeloma. It does not end with a period. The 100 percent line and the five-year sentence for symptomatic multiple myeloma are printed under DC 7712.
Does § 3.309 name solitary plasmacytoma?
The 2026-10-01 text contains “Multiple myeloma” and does not contain “plasmacytoma.” It does not assign DC 7724.
