Chronic myelogenous leukemia — VA Diagnostic Code 7719
Hematologic / lymphatic
Diagnostic code
7719
38 CFR § 4.117 lists Diagnostic Code 7719 as “Chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) (chronic myeloid leukemia or chronic granulocytic leukemia):”. The title ends with a colon. The lines are 100, 60, and 30. Two notes follow. The schedule heading above this group is “Myeloproliferative Disorders: (Diagnostic Codes 7704, 7718, 7719).” Appendix B to Part 4 uses the same title and ends with a period. The catalog slug is dc-7719-chronic-myelogenous-leukemia-cml-chronic-myeloid-leukemia-or-chronic-granulocytic-leukemia.
Reviewed 2026-10-05. Text checked against the eCFR versioner full-text XML for 2026-10-01 on 2026-10-05. Title 38 was last amended on 2026-08-27. On 2026-10-05 the titles list reports up to date as of 2026-10-02. The rating criteria at each level
7719 Chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) (chronic myeloid leukemia or chronic granulocytic leukemia)
Rating %: 100
Criteria (verbatim). Requiring peripheral blood or bone marrow stem cell transplant, or continuous myelosuppressive or immunosuppressive therapy treatment
Rating %: 60
Criteria (verbatim). Requiring intermittent myelosuppressive therapy, or molecularly targeted therapy with tyrosine kinase inhibitors, or interferon treatment when not in apparent remission
Rating %: 30
Criteria (verbatim). In apparent remission on continuous molecularly targeted therapy with tyrosine kinase inhibitors
| Rating % | Criteria (verbatim) |
|---|---|
| 100 | Requiring peripheral blood or bone marrow stem cell transplant, or continuous myelosuppressive or immunosuppressive therapy treatment |
| 60 | Requiring intermittent myelosuppressive therapy, or molecularly targeted therapy with tyrosine kinase inhibitors, or interferon treatment when not in apparent remission |
| 30 | In apparent remission on continuous molecularly targeted therapy with tyrosine kinase inhibitors |
Note (1): If the condition undergoes leukemic transformation, evaluate as leukemia under diagnostic code 7703
Note (2): A 100 percent evaluation shall be assigned as of the date of hospital admission for peripheral blood or bone marrow stem cell transplant; or during the period of treatment with chemotherapy (including myelosuppressants). Six months following hospital discharge or, in the case of chemotherapy treatment, six months after completion of treatment, the appropriate disability rating shall be determined by mandatory VA examination. Any reduction in evaluation based upon that or any subsequent examination shall be subject to the provisions of § 3.105 of this chapter
Neither note ends with a period. Note (2) cites § 3.105. It does not add “(e).” The three percentage lines do not end with a period.
The schedule title ends with a colon. Appendix B ends with a period and keeps the parenthetical names.
38 CFR § 4.7 assigns the higher rating when the disability picture more nearly approximates the criteria required for that rating. Otherwise, the lower rating will be assigned. 38 CFR § 4.6 requires each element affecting the evidence to be studied so that decisions will be equitable and just. 38 CFR § 4.14 says the evaluation of the same disability under various diagnoses is to be avoided, and that the evaluation of the same manifestation under different diagnoses is to be avoided.
Note (1) sends leukemic transformation to DC 7703. The DC 7703 title is “Leukemia (except for chronic myelogenous leukemia).” That exception is why CML is this code.
The 2026-10-01 text of 38 CFR § 3.309 lists “Leukemia.” in paragraph (a), “Leukemia (other than chronic lymphocytic leukemia).” in paragraph (d)(2)(i), “All chronic B-cell leukemias (including, but not limited to, hairy-cell leukemia and chronic lymphocytic leukemia)” in paragraph (e), and “Adult leukemia.” in paragraph (f). It does not contain “myelogenous,” “7719,” or “chronic myeloid.” 38 CFR § 3.311(b)(2)(i) lists “All forms of leukemia except chronic lymphatic (lymphocytic) leukemia” and does not assign DC 7719. This page does not add DC 7719 to a presumptive row.

What the words mean in your records
Three names, one code
The title names chronic myelogenous leukemia, chronic myeloid leukemia, and chronic granulocytic leukemia. Those are the words in the parentheses. The percentage lines are the same three lines for that title.
Note (2) cites § 3.105, not § 3.105(e)
The note says any reduction based on the mandatory examination, or a later one, is subject to § 3.105 of this chapter. It does not print the “(e)” that some neighboring notes print.
Leukemic transformation goes to DC 7703
Note (1) is one sentence and does not end with a period. It names diagnostic code 7703. It does not restate the DC 7703 percentages.
Evidence that speaks to each level
100, 60, or 30
What the rater needs to see. Whether the record shows peripheral blood or bone marrow stem cell transplant, or continuous myelosuppressive or immunosuppressive therapy; intermittent myelosuppressive therapy, molecularly targeted therapy with tyrosine kinase inhibitors, or interferon when not in apparent remission; or apparent remission on continuous molecularly targeted therapy with tyrosine kinase inhibitors.
Where that usually lives. The oncology record, including the treatment named in the line.
Note (2) dates
What the rater needs to see. The hospital admission date for stem cell transplant, or the period of chemotherapy including myelosuppressants, and the examination six months after discharge or after chemotherapy is completed.
Where that usually lives. The admission and discharge record, or the chemotherapy completion date, and the later examination.
VA’s public DBQ list, checked October 5, 2026, names “Hematologic and Lymphatic Conditions, Including Leukemia” under Hematologic and Lymphatic. The file is Hematologic and Lymphatic Conditions, Including Leukemia.
The exam form
DC 7719 prints 100, 60, and 30. This page does not say the form replaces those lines.
Related codes and how they interact
The myeloproliferative heading names three codes
The heading is “Myeloproliferative Disorders: (Diagnostic Codes 7704, 7718, 7719).” DC 7704 is polycythemia vera. DC 7718 is essential thrombocythemia and primary myelofibrosis. DC 7703 is the code Note (1) names if CML undergoes leukemic transformation. The DC 7703 page quotes these three DC 7719 lines.
Secondary conditions and presumptions
Section 3.309 lists leukemia in more than one paragraph and does not assign DC 7719. Section 3.311(b)(2)(i) lists all forms of leukemia except chronic lymphatic (lymphocytic) leukemia and does not assign DC 7719. This page does not add DC 7719 to a presumptive row.
A separate question, when a presumption does not decide it, is a medical question on the facts under 38 CFR § 3.310. Paragraph (a) covers disability proximately due to or the result of a service-connected disease or injury. Paragraph (b) covers increase in severity and requires a medical baseline.
Short answers
How does VA rate chronic myelogenous leukemia under DC 7719?
Under 38 CFR § 4.117, Diagnostic Code 7719 rates chronic myelogenous leukemia, also called chronic myeloid leukemia or chronic granulocytic leukemia, at 100, 60, or 30 percent. Note (1) evaluates leukemic transformation as leukemia under diagnostic code 7703. Education only. VA decides on the evidence.
Does § 3.309 assign DC 7719?
No. Section 3.309 lists “Leukemia.”, leukemia other than chronic lymphocytic leukemia, chronic B-cell leukemias, and adult leukemia. It does not contain “myelogenous” or “7719.” Section 3.311(b)(2)(i) also does not assign this code.
FAQ
What are the DC 7719 percentages?
100, 60, and 30. The 100 percent line is peripheral blood or bone marrow stem cell transplant, or continuous myelosuppressive or immunosuppressive therapy. The 60 percent line is intermittent myelosuppressive therapy, or tyrosine kinase inhibitors, or interferon when not in apparent remission. The 30 percent line is apparent remission on continuous tyrosine kinase inhibitors. Education only.
Does Note (2) cite § 3.105(e)?
No. Note (2) says “§ 3.105 of this chapter.” It does not print “(e).” Neither note ends with a period.
Is chronic myelogenous leukemia rated under DC 7703?
No. The DC 7703 title excepts chronic myelogenous leukemia. Note (1) of DC 7719 sends leukemic transformation to diagnostic code 7703. The ordinary CML lines stay on DC 7719.
