38 CFR § 4.118 lists Diagnostic Code 7805 as “Scars, other; and other effects of scars evaluated under diagnostic codes 7800, 7801, 7802, or 7804:”. The title ends with a colon. The criteria cell says to evaluate any disabling effect not considered in a rating provided under diagnostic codes 7800-04 under an appropriate diagnostic code. The rating cell is empty. No note is printed under this code. Appendix B to Part 4 uses the same words and ends with a period. The catalog slug is dc-7805-scars-other-and-other-effects-of-scars-evaluated-under-diagnostic-codes-7800-7801-7802-or-7804.

The rating criteria at each level

7805 Scars, other; and other effects of scars

Rating %: —

Criteria (verbatim). Evaluate any disabling effect(s) not considered in a rating provided under diagnostic codes 7800-04 under an appropriate diagnostic code

The criteria cell does not end with a period. It prints “7800-04,” with a hyphen. The title spells out “7800, 7801, 7802, or 7804.”

The 2026-10-01 headings in § 4.118 include DC 7800, DC 7801, DC 7802, DC 7804, and DC 7805. They do not include a heading for DC 7803. The hyphenated range still prints “7800-04.” This page does not supply criteria for a code the section does not head.

The General Rating Formula For The Skin is captioned for DCs 7806, 7809, 7813-7816, 7820-7822, and 7824. DC 7805 is not in that list.

The schedule title ends with a colon. Appendix B ends with a period.

Section 4.118(a) says that, for the purposes of this section, systemic therapy is treatment that is administered through any route (orally, injection, suppository, intranasally) other than the skin, and topical therapy is treatment that is administered through the skin. Section 4.118(b) says two or more skin conditions may be combined in accordance with § 4.25 only if separate areas of skin are involved. If two or more skin conditions involve the same area of skin, then only the highest evaluation shall be used. 38 CFR § 4.14 says the evaluation of the same disability under various diagnoses is to be avoided, and that the evaluation of the same manifestation under different diagnoses is to be avoided.

The 2026-10-01 text of 38 CFR § 3.309 does not contain “7805” or “scar.” This page does not add DC 7805 to a presumptive row.

What the words mean in your records

7800-04 is the cell’s hyphen

The criteria cell uses “7800-04.” The title uses the words “7800, 7801, 7802, or 7804.” Both are in the table. DC 7803 has no heading in this section.

No percentage on this row

The rating cell is empty. The instruction is to use an appropriate diagnostic code for a disabling effect the 7800-04 rating did not consider.

Not the general skin formula

The formula header does not name DC 7805. The 60, 30, 10, and 0 formula lines are not this code’s lines.

Evidence that speaks to each level

The DC 7805 row

What the rater needs to see. A disabling effect of a scar that was not considered in a rating under diagnostic codes 7800, 7801, 7802, or 7804, and the diagnostic code used for that effect.

Where that usually lives. The scar examination and the decision that names the other code.

VA’s public DBQ list, checked October 5, 2026, names “Scars” and, separately, “Skin Diseases” under Dermatological. The files are Scars and Skin Diseases.

The exam form

DC 7805’s cell is the evaluate-under-an-appropriate-code sentence. This page does not say either form replaces that sentence.

Related codes and how they interact

Codes the title names

DC 7800 is disfigurement of the head, face, or neck. DC 7801 is scars associated with underlying soft tissue damage. DC 7804 is unstable or painful scars. DC 7818 names DC 7805 in its rate-as line for malignant skin neoplasms other than melanoma.

Secondary conditions and presumptions

Section 3.309 does not contain “7805” or “scar.” This page does not add DC 7805 to a presumptive row.

A separate question, when a presumption does not decide it, is a medical question on the facts under 38 CFR § 3.310. Paragraph (a) covers disability proximately due to or the result of a service-connected disease or injury. Paragraph (b) covers increase in severity and requires a medical baseline.
