Other eye 10/200 (3/60) — VA Diagnostic Code 6072
Eye
Diagnostic code
6072
Appendix B to Part 4, version date 2026-10-01, prints Diagnostic Code 6072 three times, each time under “Vision in 1 eye 5/200 (1.5/60):”. The lines are “Other eye 10/200 (3/60).”, “Other eye 15/200 (4.5/60).”, and “Other eye 20/200 (6/60).” The rating table in 38 CFR § 4.79 for that same version date does not list Diagnostic Code 6072. Central visual acuity in that table runs from DC 6061 through DC 6066. The catalog slug for this page is the 10/200 line. Those acuity pairs are printed on DC 6065.
Reviewed 2026-10-05. Text checked against the eCFR versioner full-text XML for 2026-10-01 on 2026-10-05. Title 38 was up to date as of 2026-10-01 and last amended on 2026-08-27. The § 4.79 source note prints 73 FR 66550, Nov. 10, 2008, as amended at 83 FR 15321, Apr. 10, 2018. The § 4.75 source note prints 73 FR 66549, Nov. 10, 2008. The § 4.76 source note prints 73 FR 66549, Nov. 10, 2008.

Appendix B says “Vision in 1 eye” and “Other eye.” Section 4.79 says “Vision in one eye” and “In the other eye.” The index uses a period after each metric fraction. The rating-table cells do not.
Appendix B prints 6072 only under “Vision in 1 eye 5/200 (1.5/60):”. The 5/200 other-eye line under that heading is 6071, not 6072. The 20/100, 20/70, and 20/50 lines under that heading are 6073. The 20/40 line is 6074.
On DC 6065, “In the other eye 5/200 (1.5/60)” is 100, and superscript 1 is on that 100. The 10/200, 15/200, and 20/200 cells quoted above do not carry that superscript. Footnote 1 of the central-acuity table reads: Review for entitlement to special monthly compensation under 38 CFR 3.350.
This catalog slug is the 10/200 line. The 15/200 and 20/200 Appendix B lines have their own catalog slugs.
38 CFR § 4.76(b)(1) says to evaluate central visual acuity on the basis of corrected distance vision with central fixation, even if a central scotoma is present. Paragraph (b)(4) says that where a reported visual acuity is between two sequentially listed visual acuities, use the visual acuity which permits the higher evaluation. 38 CFR § 4.75(b) says the examination must be conducted by a licensed optometrist or a licensed ophthalmologist. 38 CFR § 4.7 assigns the higher rating when the disability picture more nearly approximates the criteria required for that rating. Otherwise, the lower rating will be assigned. 38 CFR § 4.6 requires each element affecting the evidence to be studied so that decisions will be equitable and just.
38 CFR § 4.75(c) says that, subject to 38 CFR 3.383(a), if visual impairment of only one eye is service-connected, the visual acuity of the other eye will be considered to be 20/40 for purposes of evaluating the service-connected visual impairment. That sentence is not an Appendix B 6072 line. Paragraph (d) says the evaluation for visual impairment of one eye must not exceed 30 percent unless there is anatomical loss of the eye. The DC 6065 cells quoted here are 90, 80, and 70. Those figures are DC 6065 figures.
DC 6065 in the rating table is “Vision in one eye 5/200 (1.5/60):”. DC 6071 is the Appendix B line for 5/200 in the other eye under that same first-eye heading. The other two Appendix B 6072 lines are the 15/200 catalog page and the 20/200 catalog page. The DC 6066 page is a different first eye: 10/200 (3/60) or better, in the rating table.
The 2026-10-01 text of 38 CFR § 3.309 does not contain “6072” or “5/200.” It does not assign this index line.

What the words mean in your records
The rating table stops at 6066
DC 6061 through DC 6066 are the central-acuity codes in the 2026-10-01 text of § 4.79. Searching that section’s XML for 6072 returns no hits. The next table is Ratings for Impairment of Visual Fields, beginning at DC 6080.
Three index lines, one catalog slug
Appendix B repeats 6072 under vision in 1 eye of 5/200 (1.5/60), for other-eye acuities of 10/200 (3/60), 15/200 (4.5/60), and 20/200 (6/60). This catalog slug is the 10/200 line. On DC 6065 that pair is 90.
1 eye and one eye
The index uses the numeral “1.” The rating table uses the word “one.” The index says “Other eye.” The rating table says “In the other eye.”
Evidence that speaks to each level
The acuity pair
What the rater needs to see. Corrected distance vision in each eye, because the DC 6065 rows are pairs. The three pairs that Appendix B numbers 6072 are 5/200 (1.5/60) in one eye, with 10/200 (3/60), 15/200 (4.5/60), or 20/200 (6/60) in the other. The 10/200 pair on this slug is 90.
Where that usually lives. The eye examination § 4.75(b) and § 4.76 describe, from a licensed optometrist or ophthalmologist.
One service-connected eye
What the rater needs to see. Whether § 4.75(c) is the sentence in use: visual impairment of only one eye service-connected, with the other eye considered 20/40, subject to § 3.383(a).
Where that usually lives. The decision’s statement of which eye is service-connected.
VA’s public DBQ list, checked October 5, 2026, names “Eye Conditions” under Ophthalmological. The file is Eye Conditions.
The exam form
DC 6072 is an index number. The percentages quoted on this page are DC 6065 cells. This page does not say the form assigns a percentage to 6072.
Related codes and how they interact
The 5/200 other-eye line is a different index number.
Under vision in 1 eye of 5/200 (1.5/60), Appendix B uses 6071 for “Other eye 5/200 (1.5/60).” On DC 6065 that cell is 100, and superscript 1 is on that 100. The 6072 lines begin at the next other eye.
Secondary conditions and presumptions
The 2026-10-01 text of 38 CFR § 3.309 does not contain “6072,” “5/200,” or “blindness.” It does not assign this index line.
Short answers
Does § 4.79 assign a percentage to diagnostic code 6072?
The 2026-10-01 rating table does not list Diagnostic Code 6072. The 90, 80, and 70 figures on this page are DC 6065 cells for the acuity pairs Appendix B still numbers 6072. The 10/200 pair is 90. Education only. VA decides on the evidence.
Which special-monthly-compensation footnote is on the 10/200 cell?
The DC 6065 “In the other eye 10/200 (3/60)” cell does not carry superscript 1. On that same code, superscript 1 is on the 100 for 5/200 in the other eye. Footnote 1 says to review special monthly compensation under 38 CFR 3.350.
FAQ
What is the VA rating for DC 6072?
The 2026-10-01 text of 38 CFR § 4.79 does not list Diagnostic Code 6072, so that section does not print a percentage for it. Appendix B still indexes 6072 under “Vision in 1 eye 5/200 (1.5/60):” for other-eye acuities of 10/200, 15/200, and 20/200. On Diagnostic Code 6065 those pairs are 90, 80, and 70. This page’s slug is the 10/200 line, which is 90. Education only.
Why does the catalog still say DC 6072?
The catalog slug follows Appendix B, which still prints 6072. The rating table was amended at 83 FR 15321, Apr. 10, 2018, and the 2026-10-01 text of § 4.79 ends the central-acuity codes at 6066.
Are the other two Appendix B 6072 lines this page?
They are the same index number, under the same “Vision in 1 eye 5/200 (1.5/60)” heading, for 15/200 and 20/200. Each has its own catalog slug. This page is the 10/200 slug. On the DC 6065 grid those other-eye words are 80 and 70.
