Why doesn’t it just add up?
The VA uses a “whole person” method. Once a condition claims 50%, only 50% remains. Your next condition takes a percent of that 50% — not of 100%.
Add condition ratings and see a combined-rating estimate. Ratings are sorted highest first. Each one applies only to the whole-person efficiency that is still left. The raw value is then rounded to the nearest 10 under 38 CFR § 4.25. This is an estimate, not a VA decision.
Example. A 50% rating and a 30% rating are not 80%. The combined value is 65, which rounds to a 70% estimate. Read the whole-person steps in why a combined rating is not the sum.
Search by condition name or diagnostic code. You can also use the DC code lookup.

Add a condition and a rating to see a combined-rating estimate. Nothing is calculated until a rating is selected.
Each named rating is saved as an estimate on your claim. It does not file anything with VA.

For paired extremities, the ratings for the right and left sides are combined first, and 10 percent of that value is added before the other ratings. That step is an estimate on this page. Read the bilateral factor note.
The math can stay below 100 even when several ratings are entered. TDIU is a separate benefit that can pay at the 100% rate when service-connected conditions keep a veteran from working. The number here is an estimate. Open the TDIU guide.
